TENSION HEADACHES: SELF-HELP

Self-help for tension headaches revolves around one word: stress. In principle it’s simple: get rid of the stress and tension headaches will become a thing of the past.

Start off by identifying those things which cause you to feel stressed, and remove or minimise them. Then learn to deal with the stress that you cannot remove completely. Assertiveness training and business stress management can be useful.

As far as physical stress is concerned, try to identify those situations that strain your neck, and back – especially those actions that put your body in odd positions: decorating, climbing, swimming, using a computer, etc. Poor posture, bad seating, too soft a mattress can all cause problems.
