THE VIRILITY SOLUTION: A SECOND CURE IS FOUND
The development of a second ED oral medication was based on the work of Dr. Adrian Zorgniotti. But it hadn’t been been for a fortuitous meeting between Dr. Zorgniotti and Joseph Podolski, the president of Zonagen, a texas-based pharmaceutical company, his research might never have passed so rapidly from his basement laboratory to a pill that would be marketed worldwide. In addition to his work with ED patients, Dr. Zorgniotti was a renowned male fertility expert whose work attracted the attention of Joe Podolski and his company. In New York for a meeting, Podolski was shown several new devices that Dr. Zorgniotti had developed to facilitate human reproduction. Unfortunately Podolski felt that none of them could ever have been brought to market by his company. However, knowing of Dr. Zorgniotti’s creativity and inventiveness, he asked offhandedly as he was preparing to leave if there was anything else he had developed that might be of interest.
The doctor opened his desk drawer and took out a small paper strip and handed it to Podolski. “You might find this intriguing,” he said. “I have got a patent on it but it will take me a little while to refine the delivery system.”
As Podolski examined the paper, turning it over carefully in his fingers, Dr. Zorgniotti casually detailed that this phentolamine-impregnated strip was capable of restoring erections in men whose erection capabilities had been compromised.
Podolski was stunned. He put down his coat and asked the doctor to fill him in on all his research with phentolamine. By the end of the conversation, it was clear to Podolski that Dr. Zorgniotti, in failing health, had doubts about his own ability to single-handedly realize the full potential of his work. The two men soon agreed to work together to take the drug to the next important level, which would be a fast-acting pill that could be distributed to a much larger market than Dr. Zorgniotti could ever have hoped to reach on his own. “His only concern was that we at Zonagen do justice to his work. This was to be his legacy,” said Podolski.
Unfortunately, the Zonagen-Zorgniotti alliance was short-lived because Dr. Zorgniotti died soon after. “We feel that we’ve honored Adrian’s memory with the development of Vasomax,” said Podolski. “I wish he had lived to see it.”
